Google Chrome Will Mark HTTP Sites as Not Secure

In July 2018, Chrome will start showing the red “not secure” warning when users enter data on HTTP pages. Did you know you can make an existing Wix site HTTPS with just one click on a button?

What is HTTPS?

Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) is the secure protocol through which your browser communicates with sites.

When using HTTP sites, any data that is transferred can potentially be accessed or manipulated by attackers. However, when using HTTPS sites, data is encrypted and authenticated and is therefore secured.

A Secure Sockets Layer, or SSL certificate, allows your site visitors to view your site over an HTTPS connection.  It secures the connection between your browser and the site you’re visiting.

Google Chrome announcement regarding HTTPS / HTTP

Google Chrome announced today that it will make changes to how they will label HTTPS and HTTP sites in the future. Chrome will mark all HTTP sites as "not secure" with a red warning sign in July 2018 and will remove the "Secure" from HTTPS sites in September 2018.

This is basically a final warning for those sites that are still HTTP!

How to make your Wix site HTTPS

Contrary to other platforms, getting an HTTPS site with Wix is a really simple process. If you do not already have an HTTPS site, it is now time to turn SSL on with a simple click on a button:

  1. Go to Manage Site

  2. Click Manage next to SSL Certificate

  3. Click Turn on SSL

  4. Click Continue

Using HTML Elements

To have a Wix site that is fully compatible for HTTPS, you need to make sure that none of the HTML elements on your site contain an embedded site link that references to HTTP sites. If the embedded site contains HTTP in the link, then you will receive an error notice in Wix.
